Ricky Chan gave me the greatest haircut of my life. It was also my last haircut and the only one I’ve gotten from someone else within the past, oh, six years at least. At LEAST. So it was a very momentous occasion for me, and I make sure to tell everyone about how amazing it is to get a haircut from Ricky (you too can experience the confidence boost that comes from turning heads on the sidewalk by booking an appointment with him at Lakshmi Hair Studio). I love collaborating with other creatives, so I asked Ricky if he wanted to team up for a shoot on one of the last beautiful days of the fall season. We recruited my good friend Nicole who conveniently is incredibly beautiful and has AMAZING hair. She had been away in the Philippines on a Fulbright Grant for a year and is back in Philly for a little stint before starting med school in Australia next month! So it was the perfect time to get some portraits of her before she ditches this continent again. I’m used to seeing Nicole’s more athletic, tomboyish side, so I thought it would be fun to style her in some more funky feminine looks for this shoot. But first, I grabbed a few behind-the-scenes of Ricky the Hair Master at work!
“And now I shall ZAP your hair into submission!”
