Photographing men seems intimidating to me. Ladies often like to dress up and channel their inner diva in front of the camera, but a lot of guys completely freeze up when the lens is pointed at them and suddenly their joints turn stiff. I wanted to take a stab at that casual, natural, J Crew guy look, so I called up my friend Will (and when I say “call up” I use it as an idiom for “instant messaged on Facebook” ) and asked if he wanted to take some portraits of each other one afternoon. Will is a photographer, too, and we’ve gone on a few photo walks in the past, but this was definitely our most fun session yet! The weather was GORGEOUS and we spent a few hours walking around the city and finding some photogenic corners to pose each other in. Oh, and that thing about guys being awkward in front of the camera? Will turned that notion upside down by being the most perfect and relaxed model – I seriously never knew he had it in him! So I got in a little practice, but really, these shots were easy.
