Maybe I should check what time the sun sets, I thought. Feeney and I had spent about an hour cooing over her cat, Puffy (“His tail! It’s so long!”) and another hour going through her closet putting together a fall look (“Do you have brown tights? Nothing brown? A brown cardigan? No? Brown sweater? Nothing brown at all??”). But I had a glowy, golden portrait in mind with the sun at her back and probably some railroad tracks involved in the situation. So the sunset was a pretty important detail I needed to research. Feeney looked it up on her iPhone. 4:38. We looked at the clock. 4:29. We looked at each other and went into panic mode. She put on a dab of mascara and I packed my camera in my purse, and we went to look for the sun. We never did find it. But we have a super fun fall fashion shoot and created some great images with the light we found under I-95 instead!
